How it all works

Ordered Pairs and Nicknames: When a comma is used, the search function assumes you are searching for "last, first." Alternatively, when a space is used, it assumes you are searching on "first last." Also know that a person's "nickname" and "name" are interchangeable, but only if a person's "preferred first name" (something you can set in eID) is registered; using either will return that person's listing.

Wildcards: Wildcard searches are automatically attached to the end of each name entered, so "Ted Roo" will easily locate "Teddy Roosevelt." This is a good option if you're not sure of the spelling. (For completeness, "roo, te" will also find him.)

Last Name Only: A last name all by itself also works. For a less common last name like "Roosevelt," this will work fine. With a more common name, like "Smith," you may get too many results to be helpful. This means first-name-only searches are not allowed.

Middle Names, Multiple Last Names: Ignore middle names. To search for "Charles Emerson Winchester," just search for "Charles Winchester" (or "Cha Winc" for short). For multiple, or hyphenated last names, like "Olivia Newton-John," Just search on the first part of the compound last name, like "Olivia Newton" (alternately, "New, Oli" would also work).

What if your listing is incorrect? What about Privacy?

The information found in these listings is obtained from a number of database systems on campus.

Students are able to make updates to some of their personal information found in the directory through eID and RAMweb. Other changes must be made through the Registrar's Office. Students are also able to publish a Web site address. In compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), students have the option of removing themselves from the directory — to remove your e-mail address, use eID Modify. To remove your address, phone, and name, contact the Registrar's Office.

Faculty and Staff members are able to make updates to some of their personal information found in the directory through eID, and are also able to publish a Web site address. Other changes (such as office location, phone, and other information) should be directed to your departmental human resource representative.
